2016 Annual Pheasant Hunt

Cherrybend Pheasant Farm – Wilmington, Ohio

Each year around Thanksgiving, Tim Le Cras and his two sons, Matt and Sam, pack up their hunting gear and head to Cherrybend Pheasant Farm in Wilmington, Ohio.  This has been an annual tradition for several years now and this year I was able to join them; capturing the images you see below.  Matt and Sam, are both very accomplished shooters and thus the pheasants had little chance against their marksmanship.

With pheasants loose on the farm, Tim, Matt and their guide BJ head out in search of their game.  As you can see, safety is a primary concern as everyone is donned in orange and shotguns in safety position.  On the other hand, still wondering why I was asked to wear the jacket with a bullseye on it?

With a keen eye and sense of where to expect the pheasant coming out of hiding, Matt has achieved his first kill with a single shot!

At first I thought Tim was ordering takeout from a local pizzeria, but soon learned that he was calling Sam to be ready for this turn.  Again for safety reasons, the boys take turns, each one working one-on-one with the Cherrybend guide.

Sam and Matt are obviously very much at home on the pheasant farm or anytime they have shotguns in hand.  I quickly saw how both were very skilled and displayed a great sense of maturity.  Their dad advised me this was due to excellent parenting!  LOL

lecras_20161125_img-5204_p162-ps

Sam is all smiles as he is truly in his happy place here on the pheasant farm with shotgun in hand.

The Cherrybend guide dogs find and lure the pheasants out from their hiding spots and are truly key to the success of today’s hunt.  I was amazed at how well the dogs were cared for and their dedication to the task at hand.

I tried to capture them in different positions but it was difficult as things seemed to happen very quickly.

lecras_20161125_img-5339_p297-ps

Unfortunately it was an overcast day and fairly dreary for late November so I did a bit of photo editing to make for better images.  This one of Matt is a personal favorite.

lecras_20161125_IMG-5366_P324.jpg

Had an interesting moment as we couldn’t find one of the pheasants that surely was no longer among the living.  I didn’t realize the bird at my own feet was what everyone was looking for at the moment.  Clearly this was my first time on a pheasant hunting farm.  LOL

lecras_20161125_IMG-5383_P341.jpg

The guide dogs were well trained and full of energy as they roamed the farm in search of the hiding pheasants.

lecras_20161125_IMG-5327_P285.jpg

Yes, the boys actually let their dad take a shot or two along the way.  I assume that dad missed on purpose so that the boys would have more chances.  LOL

lecras_20161125_IMG-5332_P290.jpg

This was another favorite shot of mine as the scene seemed a bit surreal as the Cheerybend guide BJ and his faithful companion lead the way.

lecras_20161125_IMG-5443_P401-IP-003.jpg

Of course, being a photographer, I had to capture at least a few portraits of the boys but had to do so quickly as the autumn light was disappearing quickly.

lecras_20161125_img-5489_p447-ps

As you can see it was a very productive day for the Le Cras men with 10 pheasants bagged.

lecras_20161125_img-5498_p456

Next stop is cleaning the birds making them ready to become dinner.  Of course, I planned to stop at Wendy’s on the way home for a good old fashion chicken sandwich!

Until next time…

A Beautiful Family

I am truly blessed to have been photographing the Bosse family since I first got serious about photography.  We did these family photos in the fall of 2015 and I appreciate their willingness to spend the entire day with me out and about – especially Dad.  Jessica and Brian are such wonderful kids that I always look forward to having them in front of the camera.  More blogs to come with this incredible family!

If you would like to schedule your own family photos, please visit our website at http://www.kpixpro.com or call us at 513.675.1967.  We look forward to creating timeless memories that your family will forever cherish.

Located on the banks of the Ohio River near Saylor Park, we started the day at Fernbank Park.  We are very fortunate in Cincinnati to have so many incredible parks and venues to choose from in creating incredible photographs.

Love both of these smiles.

There is an awesome bridge here at Fernbank Park, but you really have to plan ahead for the many people using the bridge.  That is, you need to start early and we did at 7:00am.

Another great reason for coming here is the playground so kids can play while working with the rest of the family.  Love photographing kids having fun and not just posing for the camera.

Moved on to the Covington, Kentucky side of the Ohio River near downtown.  Such a great spot and again love photographing the whole family just hanging out and doing their thing.  Karl and Tiffany are terrific parents, raising a couple of wonderful kids and I look forward to photographing them for many years to come.

We barely got these sidewalk photos in before the rain started, but so glad that these two were so cooperative and patient.  Totally love the hats!

We were so lucky to have a U.S. battleship in the background at the time.  This is one family photo that will forever be unique.  Couldn’t believe what I had to do to get the battleship to dock there for us.  LOL!

So thankful to be working with Karl, Tiffany, Jessica and Brian. Such a wonderful family and love the fact that their home is now filled with large and colorful prints from this family session.

Tyler Busch – Class of 2016 Senior

Had such a great time working with Tyler and his mom Amanda on his senior portraits.  Such an easy going young man but also learned he has strong moral principles and a great head on his shoulders.  He is headed to Thomas More Collage this fall majoring in Marine Biology and I am certain that he will do extremely well.

To schedule your own senior portrait session, visit on website at www.kpixpro.com or contact us by email at info@kpixpro.com or by phone at 513.675.1967.  We look forward to working with you and creating an experience that you will forever cherish.

Downtown Cincinnati at Smale Riverfront Park provides an incredible view of the John A Roebling Suspension bridge, connecting Cincinnati, Ohio and Covington, Kentucky.

Love this small lake at Burnet Woods Park in Clifton.  Since Tyler is going to be majoring in marine biology I had to get at least a few photos around water.  This photo below is one of mom’s favorites which makes it one of our favorites since we truly want to give our clients images that they truly enjoy.

Tyler was very proud of his East Central High School jacket and obviously he made it look very good.  So happy to have this one printed and displayed in the family’s home to be enjoyed.

Tyler is a huge Indianapolis Colts fan and since senior portraits is about capturing their personality I had to get this one of him watching the game on his iPhone.  Not sure who won the game that day but it didn’t really matter.

Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum is literally one of my most favorite places to do photography whether is senior portraits, kids and landscape, this is an incredible venue.

kpix photography_newborn photography propsbusch_20151025_IMG-8221_P274

Ok, so I had to get a couple more great photos with water and Spring Grove Cemetery has over a dozen beautiful lakes.  Can’t even count the number of people who have seen Tyler’s photos and commented on what a handsome young man I photographed.
